INTRODUCTION

Angul is now synonymous with NALCO  (National Aluminum Company )   as it owes its present status only due to the establishment of NALCO plant in the late sixties .Now  it is enjoying another status that of a District H.Q.  since being declared so on1st April, 1993 after  reorganization of the districts of Orissa. About 60K.M away from another important place of the state  Dhenkanal along Cuttack - Sambalpur  NH-42,it  has lush green   forests and a rich variety of wildlife.  Mahanadi the "Ganges of Orissa" passes through  this  district   forming   a   22km  long  narrow  gorge being  one  of  the   mightiest   gorges  in   India. Also popularly known as "Satkosia", it is an ideal habitat for varieties of crocodiles. Talcher about 75 km from Dhenkanal is famous as the industrial belt of Orissa  and has coal mines, power plant, fertilizer factory,heavy water plant and many more . It is well connected through railways to Cuttack & Charbatia
